Sisterhood’s Women in Spirituality Summer Book Discussion: All the Broken Places

Sisterhood’s Women in Spirituality’s Summer Book Discussion will be held on Wednesday, August 2 at 6:00 pm in the Social Hall. The book is titled All the Broken Places by John Boyne. The evening will conclude with desserts prepared by our members.

All the Broken Places has been cited as a sequel to The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which Boyne wrote in 2006; however, you do not have to read that book to get the full impact of the new novel.  It has been acclaimed as a complex, thoughtful character study that avoids easy answers and provokes a lot of questions. Further, this is a very different perspective of the Holocaust, as it deals with the family of the commandant of Auschwitz who lives in a beautiful home just outside the camp. It is narrated by the commandant’s daughter, Greta Fernsby – from her teens to just before her 92nd birthday. She and her mother have fled from the camp to Paris and changed their names.

The novel forces us to consider the nature of complicity, atonement, guilt and whether violence can ever justify the prevention of something worse.

Please RSVP by July 26 and sign up to bring a dessert.

We know that this is going to be a thought-provoking, insightful and introspective discussion. Please join us!
